FC Barcelona have been recognised as the firm leaders in the race to sign Spanish starlet Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao in the ongoing summer transfer window. The winger has been having a great UEFA Euro 2024 campaign and would be playing the final of the competition against England this Sunday.

His performances against quality defenders and brilliant chemistry with teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has prompted the FC Barcelona management to show their interest in him. Even though the financial condition of the club is not at its very best, the board of directors have been confident of getting the deal over the line without much difficulty.

If FC Barcelona can sign a player of the calibre of Nico Williams, it would surely make them a lot more stronger. Williams can be a player that can thrive under new manager Hansi Flick and can contribute to the team in almost every game he participates him.

“They can perfectly well bring in a player like Nico Williams” : La Liga President Tebas

The La Liga President spoke about the financial structure that FC Barcelona needs to complete the signing of Nico Williams. He said, “If they reach the 1:1 rule, they will be able to do so. You have to think that with Barcelona’s efforts to reduce their wage bill by more than €200 million and the levers, they can perfectly well bring in a player like Nico Williams.”

He further stated that, “I think he has a termination clause of €58 million: when you buy for €58 million, the amortisation is divided by the years of the contract; if you sign him for five, it would be less than €20 million per year, plus whatever you pay the player. Barça are going to be able to be in those amounts, which are perfectly acceptable if they are in the 1:1 rule. They’re a club that are close to 1,000 million in turnover, they can be in that range.”
