Former Paris Saint-Germain star and current Galacticos signing Kylian Mbappé has caused a stir in France following his omission from the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium Didier Deschamps.
Mbappé is currently recovering from a thigh injury, which could explain his absence from the squad. However, this wasn't the case. Despite being named to the squad to face Villarreal, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was left out of the starting 11.
Mbappe being criticised in France
There has been significant criticism in France regarding the winger, who is also the captain. It is generally believed that as the captain, it is his responsibility to be present when fit. One of the critics from the French media is Le Parisien journalist Alexandre Aflalo.
Aflalo observes that after the difficult ending to his time at PSG, the France national team was the player's sanctuary. However, in recent months, it seems to have encountered similar issues.
“After all the off-field drama at PSG, the French national team was the only place where Kylian Mbappé still had broad support,” Aflalo wrote Saturday on X. “But in just six months, he’s thrown that away—and this time, it’s hard to point the finger at anyone else,” said Aflao.
Mbappe's new statement to stir more Controversy
To add to his controversial woes, Mbappe even released a statement regarding the paycheck the players receive to play for the country. Mbappe believes that national players should not earn money for playing for the National team and the money could be better used elsewhere.
“Players shouldn't earn money for defending their national team. The money could be put to better use by fans in recognition of their trust and support," said Mbappe
Mbappe featured in Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the La Liga fixture that saw the Spanish Giants get back to winning ways. Mbappe however was far from making any goal contributions.
