Belgium national football team skipper, Kevin de Bruyne, has requested some time off from the national team as the Manchester City playmaker aims to carefully manage his playing schedule.

The 33-year-old has been absent from City's last four matches following a thigh injury sustained in the 0-0 draw against Inter Milan in the Champions League back in September.

De Bruyne, who is expected to make his return in mid-October, was already ruled out of Belgium's Nations League squad for upcoming matches against Italy and France due to the injury.

Update from the Gaffer

Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco has confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne has requested to sit out the November matches against Italy and Israel, as well as the October matches. Tedesco explained that he had a lengthy conversation with De Bruyne, who expressed the need to prioritize his physical well-being. De Bruyne cited the increasingly demanding schedule, particularly with the upcoming World Cup for clubs, as the reason for his absence. However, Tedesco assured that De Bruyne will be fully committed when it comes to the World Cup.

"I had a long phone conversation with Kevin," said Tedesco.

"He has asked to skip this camp and also November, to be able to take care of his body. The schedule has become even busier due to the World Cup for clubs. That is why he is not there now and in November. But when it really counts - the World Cup - he will be there." - he added

Rodri, De Bruyne's club team-mate, firmly stated in September that players were on the brink of striking in protest against the heightened playing schedule. De Bruyne expressed concerns about his international future after a 2-0 defeat to France on 9 September.

Nevertheless, Tedesco asserted that De Bruyne is unwavering in his commitment to playing for his country.
