Ben Chilwell of Chelsea may be packing up this winter since Juventus is allegedly interested in signing the defender on a surprise loan. The 27-year-old played just 45 minutes during their Carabao Cup thumping of Barrow and has been benched throughout the season by Blues manager Enzo Maresca.
Chilwell spent the summer on Chelsea's infamous "bomb squad" after being labeled surplus to requirements, but he was unable to find a transfer outside of Stamford Bridge. The Italian powerhouses may now give him a lifeline while they try to cover defensive voids left by the injuries to Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal.
According to rumors, Chelsea will only have to contribute a portion of the England international's salary if Juventus agrees to take him on loan in January. This may be Chilwell's ideal opportunity to restart his career.
But because Juventus spent so much money in the summer on players like Teun Koopmeiners as well as Douglas Luiz, there isn't much money left over, thus the team is looking to the loan market to fill the gaps in January.
A number of center backs, like Radu Dragusin of Tottenham Hotspur, Jakub Kiwior of Arsenal, and Milan Skriniar of PSG, have previously been linked to moves to the Allianz Stadium. However, according to Tuttosport, Chilwell may be a left-back replacement for Juan Cabal.
Chilwell set to join Juventus in January transfer window
According to Tuttosport, Chelsea would even consider sending Chilwell on an extended loan for free, and they might even pay part of his salary until the conclusion of the current campaign. According to a report released on Thursday, Juventus would have to pay almost €5 million in salaries and incentives to bring in Chilwell on loan over the rest of the 2024–25 campaign.
Several teams have expressed interest in Chilwell, who came to Stamford Bridge as one of among the most exciting full-backs in English football, but he has struggled to establish himself this season.
