Manchester United staff's reduced 'Christmas Bonus'

Manchester United's staff are facing a significant reduction in their annual Christmas bonus, which has been slashed from £100 to a mere £40 voucher for Marks & Spencer. This change marks yet another instance of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's aggressive cost-cutting measures since he assumed control of football operations at Old Trafford on Christmas Eve last year.

In August, about 250 employees at United were fired, prompting a series of budgetary adjustments within the organization. As a result, many staff members had anticipated that bonuses might not be provided this year.

In previous years, under the Glazer family's ownership, employees enjoyed an annual Christmas bonus of £100. However, this year, the bonus has been modified to a £40 voucher redeemable at the high street retailer M&S, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The club made the decision to reduce the festive bonus in light of the cancellation of this year's Christmas party. Recognizing the sensitivities following a challenging year marked by redundancies, the leadership felt that a festive gathering might not align with the current circumstances.

In the past, the club has hosted a celebratory event for its 1,100 employees at various venues, including a marquee in the West Car Park at the stadium, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, and Victoria Warehouse.

In addition to the job losses, Ratcliffe is facing significant backlash for his decision to raise ticket prices at Old Trafford to a minimum of £66 for the remainder of this season.
