Although Scott McTominay acknowledges that leaving Manchester United this summer was challenging, he claims he had to "look out for number one". The 27-year-old has been an outstanding player for Napoli, which is now ranked second in Serie A, since joining the team in August. In August, McTominay's 22-year tenure at Manchester United came to an end when he was sold to Napoli for 30 million euros. The manager at the time, Erik ten Hag, was adamant that the Scotland international should stay.
Scott McTominay has now spoken out about his move to Napoli and shared his conversation with Ten Hag prior to leaving Old Trafford. He joined Napoli and reunited with his Scotland teammate Billy Gilmour. "It was a mutual decision," McTominay, who joined United in 2002, said. "It was a case of - there's an opportunity there, do you want to go? "On my last day, I had to go and see everyone and it was not easy to say goodbye," he said. "But that's football. That's the life. "I knew that was what I wanted, and I'll never have any regrets in my life. It was a mutual decision for all of us, I'm enjoying it at Napoli," he told BBC.
Scott McTominay hopes to add more titles to his collection
In 15 games for Antonio Conte's team, McTominay has four goals and two assists, solidifying his place as a fan favourite. At Napoli, McTominay hopes to add more titles to his collection, having won FA Cup and League Cup championships with United. In the meantime, Erik Ten Hag has now been replaced in the United dugout by Ruben Amorim, who hopes to inspire the team to contend for the greatest prizes once more.
