The star right winger, Mason Greenwood has been in the headlines for the last couple of months since his transfer to Marseille from Manchester United earlier in in July 2024. However, he didn’t get much time to spend on the field as he was benched for most of the time during the matches against Lens and PNG in recent days.

Meanwhile, Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi came up with a big statement while speaking about Greenwood’s presence in the club and the possibility of him being there for long in the squad. De Zerbi also mentioned a few do’s and don’ts for Greenwood to follow if the latter wants to continue his stint with the club without any hindrances.

I expect more from him – Alberto De Zerbi on Mason Greenwood

De Zerbi came up with a warning tone while making some hard-and-fast-lined suggestions for Greenwood in order to keep his place in the team.

“No one can have more respect for him than I do. But that doesn't change anything: I expect more from him. He has to do more because what he is currently showing is not enough. If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined,” said Roberto De Zerbi.

“He is a player that can make a big difference but honestly, if he doesn’t react, questions will be asked about a departure for Greenwood this summer. “If he isn’t able to understand that his manager and his directors fought against a risk – more than a sporting risk – in bringing him, to give him visibility, because OM isn’t Getafe,” he added later.

In the ongoing Ligue 1 2024-25, Greenwood has appeared in 26 games and has scored 15 goals, alongside three assists, while getting a yellow card. Earlier during his stint with Manchester United, the 23-year-old played 129 games, scoring 35 goals, alongside 10 assists and getting four yellow cards.

This upcoming few months of the summer are equally crucial for both Greenwood and his current club Marseille considering some important assignments in the coming few months.
