Cristian Romero to take a call after the end of the season
In a recent interview, the 26-year-old Argentine centre-back made his intentions known about his future. He revealed his desire to take a call after the end of the current season.
“We're in the Europa League semi-finals, I want to finish the season on a high note. After that, we'll see,” Romero said.
“A league I would like to play in would be Spain to compete in all the major leagues,” he added.
Earlier, Romero expressed concerns regarding Tottenham's competitive ambitions, which sparked some surprise among those at the Premier League club. He questioned the direction in which the club is headed and why they are unable to go toe-to-toe with top-tier teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.
Valued at €50 million by the Transfermarket, Christian Romero has been closely linked to Laliga club Atletico Madrid. Atletico Madrid's manager, Diego Simeon, has been a long-time admirer of the Argentine defender. As per reports, Simeone wanted to onboard Romero back in 2021. As per Spanish reports, the Atletico manager has been given the green light by the club management to go for many signings that will bolster the squad for the upcoming season.
Hence, many tip the situation to be perfect to bring Romero to Atletico. In addition to being a World Cup-winning defender, Romero could be a leader to Atletico's defence, which has faltered this season during important fixtures. Should Atletico Madrid offer a lucrative offer, Cristian Romero might as well join the squad in the next transfer window.
