Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel recently revealed details about a failed transfer deal that could have brought Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge. According to Mikel, Chelsea had made significant progress in securing Osimhen, but the deal ultimately fell through due to time constraints.

Mikel explained that both Chelsea and Osimhen were eager to finalize the move. “I know what the club offered him. I know where we got to. We finally got to a compromise,” Mikel said. He elaborated that most of the crucial details were agreed upon, but a few last-minute issues involving paperwork, medical clearances, and minor details prevented the deal from being completed.

Unfortunately, Chelsea ran out of time before they could finalize everything. Mikel remarked, "We didn't have much time. The one time you want the seconds, minutes, and hours to slow down a bit, it just didn’t work."

John Obi-Mikel praised Chelsea

The midfielder praised both Chelsea and Osimhen for their efforts in trying to make the transfer happen. He acknowledged the ambition Chelsea demonstrated in pursuing the talented striker, noting that the club is focused on building for the future.

Osimhen, on his part, was also very keen on the move but was left disappointed when it didn’t materialize. Mikel added, “He was disappointed it didn’t happen. He was disappointed.” Victor Osimhen, who currently plays for Napoli, has been in exceptional form, attracting interest from top European clubs.

A move to Chelsea could have been a significant step in his career, but the deal’s collapse highlights the unpredictable nature of football transfers, where timing and minor setbacks can make or break a potential agreement.

This revelation sheds light on Chelsea's transfer ambitions and how close the club came to securing one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. Despite the setback, Chelsea's interest in young, talented players like Osimhen signals their intent to compete at the highest levels in the coming seasons.
