Frenkie de Jong recently sat down for an interview with Barcelona's media as he nears a comeback following an extended period on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

Hansi Flick has expressed optimism about De Jong's return, stating that the Dutchman is "close" to making a comeback, with hopes that he could be back in action next week.

De Jong has been contending with an ankle issue since April and has refuted recent speculation about the club's desire for him to undergo surgery, asserting that he disagreed with these claims.

De Jong denies the rumours

De Jong mentioned people are wrong to think that he makes a lot of money or he is on vacation and not training. He even claimed that the entire club and its doctors agreed not to have him under the knife.

“People do think I’m earning a lot of money and they say I’ve to have surgery but I don't want to and I'm on vacation, I'm not training… but it's not true” - he stated.

“People were talking a lot about whether I had to have surgery or not. The club said that I had to undergo surgery and that I didn’t want to. which is not true, because everyone at the club, all the club’s doctors, agreed that not having surgery was the best option,” he told Barca One.

“So I don’t quite understand where these things come from but it’s not true. Everyone agreed that I shouldn’t have surgery.”- he added.

De Jong's desire to return to the pitch

De Jong expressed his difficulty in being sidelined and missing crucial matches for both his club and country.

“It has been a very tough process because playing football is what I love the most. I love it. Football is my passion. It has been that way my whole life,” he added.

“So, when you can’t play important matches and miss out on the Euros, many matches with Barca, it’s very tough process, very difficult because, as I said, what I love most is playing football.”

Flick will be looking forward to having De Jong back to strengthen his squad, which has been affected by injuries in the early part of the season. Barca's upcoming matches include facing Young Boys in the Champions League and playing against Alaves in La Liga on Sunday.
