Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho addressed the Financial Fair Play charges facing Manchester City, and emphasized the importance of ensuring fairness and accountability in football. As his team prepares for the Europa League matchup against Athletic Bilbao, Mourinho highlighted that it is essential that due justice is served regarding the matter.
"Pep and I worked together for 3 years, we know we love each other. It is not true that I want them to be relegated, what is true is that I want justice. Small teams can sometimes be penalised by FFP when they exceed their limits by 5-10 euros." Jose said.
Manchester City faces serious accusations of numerous financial violations, primarily involving the misrepresentation of income and blatant disregard for UEFA's financial regulations. The recent hearing regarding these issues with the Premier League has concluded, yet a final decision is still pending and is expected to take considerable time.
“I also suffered due to the limits when I was at Roma. I don’t think this is fair. We love each other, he knows it. Words are one thing, feelings are another. All I want is justice, but we have no ill feelings towards each other.” Jose added.
Guardiola and Mourinho's battle of words
City manager Guardiola and Mourinho were involved in a heated altercation of words following a challenging period for the Citizens, who have experienced only one win in their last nine matches across all competitions.
In response to comparisons made about their differing approaches while facing defeats, Guardiola highlighted his track record of success in the Premier League compared to Mourinho's and tried to assert his superiority. In turn, Mourinho raised questions regarding the validity of some of City's past victories, alluding to the 115 financial charges.
"I hope not in my case... He won three, I won six.. but we are the same like that." Pep said.
"Guardiola said something about me... he won six trophies and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly" Jose responded.
