Lamine Yamal, a teenage player for FC Barcelona, is off to an even stronger start in the 2024–25 season after shattering nearly all youth-related records the previous season. The young player has already led the team in goals scored and assists five times in La Liga. He has also scored the only goal for the team in the UEFA Champions League thus far.
With his abilities and accomplishments, he is emerging as one of Hansi Flick's most formidable weapons. He did, however, play a significant part in Spain's successful UEFA Euro 2024 campaign and has been playing frequently since the previous season. As such, he may require some recuperation in the upcoming days in order to continue playing at his best.
Hansi Flick, however, does not yet think that it is appropriate to rest Lamine Yamal for the upcoming match against Getafe, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. In an interview with the media prior to this encounter, the German strategist ruled out switching up Yamal.
Hansi Flick said, “We have all the data on the players, and for now, he doesn’t need to rest. We’ll monitor it, but I don’t think he needs to rest tomorrow. We need to start well and with a strong team tomorrow. What Lamine is doing this season is incredible. We need to maintain this level of performance. Lamine Yamal could be the best in the world in the future.”
“We want to protect him” : Hansi Flick
Lamine Yamal became the victim of aggressive play in the final stages of the Villarreal encounter when two players kicked the young player back-to-back. After the referees showed yellow cards to each of them, Flick was very happy with the way things had turned out.
The former Bayern Munich manager said, “As I said in the previous press conference, it’s important to take care of these kinds of players. So far, it’s not a refereeing issue. They gave a yellow card, and that’s fine. We want to protect him. He’s incredible with the ball. We need to closely monitor his situation and see how the referees handle it.”
