Gerard Pique experienced a lot of humiliation in his trial concerning allegations of fraud and corruption related to the Supercopa de España deal.
The focal point of the case is Pique’s company, Kosmos, which was responsible for establishing a partnership with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to relocate the tournament to Saudi Arabia. The former Barcelona football legend faces accusations of fraudulent practices, and authorities are examining whether he reaped undue benefits from the contract.
As per Relevo, Pique's company generated over €10 million in commissions from the agreement, with €1.6 million of that amount paid to Piqué himself earlier in 2025. Additionally, former RFEF president Luis Rubiales is also accused in the case related to money laundering.
Gerard Pique in tears during the court session
During the questioning, Pique denied all allegations of misconduct, emphasising that his position as a former Spanish player at the time did not influence the financial compensation he received.
Nonetheless, reports from Sport indicate that Pique recognised that he received the help of Rubiales to secure the payment from Saudi Arabian authorities, who initially failed to transfer the aforementioned funds.
Pique appeared genuinely emotional, with reports indicating he was on the brink of tears while addressing the court. With a quavering voice, the former defender conveyed the emotional toll the case has exerted on him, at both personal and professional levels.
"In another country, I would have a statue." Pique said.
Recent documents indicate that the agreement included a provision requiring the RFEF to ensure an annual commission of €4 million, a clause that has prompted some legal concerns. Additionally, Rubiales and former interim RFEF president Pedro Rocha will share their testimonies with the same.
Pique's legal team is in pursuit of clearing his name off all the accusations. The court's verdict is sure to have implications for both Pique and RFEF, particularly following financial troubles within Spanish football.
