Harry Maguire, Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Curtis Jones were among those dropped out of England's 26-man UEFA Euro 2024 team. Harry Maguire’s fitness was always an issue heading into the tournament and the team management have taken a call on him.

Maddison came from the bench in England's 3-0 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, but has since departed the camp. Meanwhile, Jones is not scheduled to play in Friday's friendly versus Iceland. Manchester City winger Jack Grealish played the friendly game a few nights back but an injury concern sees him out of the squad.

Gareth Southgate has reduced his 33-man squad to 26 prior to the squad announcement. The seven England players to miss out on the EURO 2024 squad are Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire, James Maddison, Jarrad Branthwaite, James Trafford, Curtis Jones, Jarrell Quansah. The remaining players in the squad would be playing the final friendly game against Iceland as well as the UEFA Euro 2024.

“I genuinely hope football comes home” : James Maddison

With three goals as well as five assists during his first nine matches in the Premier League for Tottenham, Maddison seemed on track for Player of the Season, and perhaps even a place in England's Euros team.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder said that, “Devastated doesn’t quite cut it. Trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make.”

The former Leicester City playmaker added that, “I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26 man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that. I’ll be back, I have no doubt. Wishing the boys all the luck in the world out in Germany, unbelievable group and lads that I literally call some of my best friends. I genuinely hope football comes home”
