Borussia Dortmund has named Nuri Şahin as the next head coach. In December 2023, Şahin arrived at the Signal Iduna Park as an assistant to Edin Terzić, having previously played there twice. Terzić's departure on Thursday resulted in a three-year contract for the club's new manager, a former Turkish international. Last season, the Black and Yellow made it to the Champions League final, but were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid.

After retiring in October of 2021, the German-born former Turkey international has pursued a coaching career, serving well as the manager and sporting director at Antalyaspor prior to returning to Dortmund.

Following an unimpressive first half during the 2023/24 campaign, Terzic recognized he needed more assistance and hired two former prominent BVB players to supplement his coaching team. Sahin and former teammate Sven Bender entered Terzic's camp to be assistant coaches, and Dortmund's fortunes improved significantly.

“The upcoming new start should be accompanied by a new man” : Edin Terzic

Before parting ways, Edin Terzic wrote a statement for the fans and it was shared across all of the club’s social media platforms. He said, "Dear Borussia fans, even though it hurts me terribly right now, I would like to tell you that I will be leaving BVB today. It was a huge honour to be able to lead this great club to a DFB Cup victory and most recently to a UEFA Champions League final.

He added, “I asked those responsible for a meeting after our final at Wembley because after nine years at BVB, including six years on the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming new start should be accompanied by a new man on the sidelines.”

The former Borussia Dortmund manager concluded by saying that, “Everyone who knows me knows that during this decision-making process of the past few weeks, two hearts have been beating in my chest. But even after intensive discussions, my basic feeling has not changed. I wish Borussia Dortmund only the very best and say thank you and goodbye."
