Thierry Henry, the former striker for Arsenal, has been connected to an unexpected move outside of France. Although Thierry Henry will be coaching France at the Olympics in Paris next month, he has been predicted to take over as head coach of Wales as well.

In 2015, the Frenchman made his coaching debut as the Arsenal U19 coach. After serving as an assistant manager to Roberto Martinez for Belgium during the 2016 European Championship, he accepted his first managerial position at Monaco in 2018 and was quickly hired by Montreal Impact in 2019.

After serving as the assistant manager for Belgium at the 2022 tournament, Henry assumed leadership of the France U21 team. As a result, the former striker for Arsenal will captain his country at the Summer Olympics, fielding players like Michael Olise, Alexandre Lacazette, and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

“Could see someone like Thierry doing it” : Robert Earnshaw

However, former Wales attacker Robert Earnshaw feels that Henry would be an ideal choice to succeed Rob Page as Wales manager. Page was fired earlier this week due to the country's failure to qualify for UEFA Euro 2024. When asked about a potential appointment for Wales, Earnshaw said that Henry possesses all the necessary qualifications to motivate the country for the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He said that, "One name who is left field but I'd throw is Thierry Henry. It's my own personal thought. I spent some time with Thierry on the coaching course a couple of years ago because he was on the Welsh FA course. He knows (technical director) David Adams and the set-up, and he understands Welsh football. The one thing that stood out when I was sat with Thierry was his football brain is brilliant.”

He added that, "With France U21s and the Olympic team, he understands young players. He would raise the bar and the level. I don't know whether he would want it. I could see someone like Thierry doing it. His football brain is brilliant, he's so sharp, advanced and has got great ideas."
