Luka Doncic has reportedly returned to Slovenia, where the national team's medical staff will evaluate his knee in advance of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, Greece, according to reports.

On July 2, Slovenia will play its first competitive match against Croatia. Following Dallas Mavericks' June 17 Finals loss, Luka Doncic who had just finished the 2023–24 NBA season—remained reticent regarding his future. However, twelve days before, he had told reporters, "Yeah, I think we'll see how my knee is." But if it's excellent, I'm going to go play."

During Dallas Mavericks' end-of-season news conference on Friday, general manager Nico Harrison told reporters that Doncic's greatest delight is playing for the national team, which he will do as long as he can walk.

Unless there is a medical reason, Doncic is likely to play in Piraeus. Despite spraining his knee in the first round, damaging his ankle in the second round, and sustaining a thoracic contusion (a chest ailment) in the Finals, he played an average of 40.1 minutes per game during the playoffs.

As per Pink Villa, Harrison added, "He was hurting, but he's a warrior. He's going to fight through all those injuries. That's just who he is. He loves to play. But yeah, I mean, multiple injuries throughout his body, that's evident, and you can see the way he's walking and running."

The nations who qualify to compete in the Paris Olympics with France, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Serbia, South Sudan, and the United States will be determined by one of four events held in Piraeus from July 2–7. The Dominican Republic, Greece, Croatia, New Zealand, and Egypt are the contenders for the top slot after Slovenia. With the Greek national team, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is getting ready for the competition.
