Fiorentina star Edoardo Bove remains conscious and responsive in hospital

Midfielder Edoardo Bove was taken under sedation and in critical care after he collapsed on the field during their match against Inter Milan on December 1, according to a statement from Serie A team ACF Fiorentina. Within the first sixteen minutes of the game, the 22-year-old abruptly fell to the ground in a startling event. As medical workers raced to the scene, players, staff, and spectators were visibly distressed. The seriousness of the issue led to an instant suspension of the contest.

Later, Fiorentina issued a statement indicating that Bove was now sedated with medication. The football community has been somewhat relieved by the good news regarding his stability, even if his condition is still being monitored. Italian football players and supporters have been deeply affected by the event and are coming together to help Bove get better.

After being unconscious, Edoardo Bove reportedly experienced "no brain or heart damage." Fabrizio Romano said that "the night went well and Fiorentina's player was extubated [taken off ventilation] — after almost 13 hours" in an encouraging update on Bove's status. 

Without the need for mechanical ventilation, Bove is reported to be "awake, conscious as he answers questions" and breathing once again. His initial remarks were reportedly "thank you all," and supportive comments and well wishes from the larger football community poured in.

Given that both Fiorentina and Inter Milan were tied for third place in the Serie A rankings, the matchup was eagerly awaited. But after Bove's fall, the game was put on indefinite hold as everyone focused on the young player's health.
