WATCH: Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove collapses during match against Inter Milan; play suspended

Edoardo Bove, a midfielder for Fiorentina, collapsed on the field during Sunday's Serie A game against Inter Milan at home. The former Roma midfielder abruptly fell as they halted play at the Stadio Franchi to talk about a possible VAR check on a goal that was disallowed by Lautaro Martinez.

Bove abruptly fell on the field when he was tying his laces. His teammates and the Inter players reacted in a panic, hurriedly calling for the medical professionals to arrive. After calling for medical assistance right away, his teammates encircled the 22-year-old Bove while he received treatment, and he was quickly carried to an ambulance close to the field.

Inter Milan game has been briefly halted due to the incident that occurred in the sixteenth minute. The Italian midfielder was brought to the hospital for treatment. We don't yet know his present state. According to Sky Italia, the 22-year-old was "breathing on his own." The football player is currently in Florence's Careggi Hospital; formal announcements are still pending.

Two instances of a player passing in Serie A

With the intention of making the move permanent, Bove left  AS Roma August to join Fiorentina on a season-long loan. In October, he scored his first goal for La Viola against his parent club. In the summer, Fiorentina paid 1.5 million euros to loan Bove, with the option to make the transfer permanent for an extra 10.5 million euros.

Fiorentina began Sunday's match with Inter tied at 28 points, four points behind league leaders Napoli, who had achieved a 1-0 victory against Torino earlier in the day. Then-captain Davide Astori passed away in his sleep at the age of 31 at a hotel prior to a league game against Udinese in 2018, causing grief for Fiorentina. This year, there have been two instances of a player passing out during a Serie A game. Evan Ndicka, a defender for Roma, experienced it during their April game against Udinese.
