FC Barcelona's in-form striker Ferran Torres is set to miss the remainder of the season. The forward has gone under the knife and will not feature in the remaining two La Liga games of the season.
The striker saw a resurgence under the new manager Hansi Flick. He ultimately carved his place in a team stacked with young, talented stars with his series of brilliant performances this season.
Ferran Torres will be out of the remainder of the season
Torres has been in outstanding form this season as Barcelona's substitute for their entire frontline. The 25-year-old had faced problems with his performance under Xavi Hernandez since his transfer from Manchester City and was contemplating leaving the club. However, the arrival of Hansi Flick influenced his decision, leading the Spaniard to choose to remain with the team.
While Ferran's decision to prolong his stay at Barcelona surprised many at the start of the season, he proved every part of it correct by exceeding the expectations of everyone around, from fans to management. Operating as a super substitute, Ferran Torres has amassed 26 goal contributions this season in 1921 playing minutes.
The Spaniard made an identity for himself despite other major stars - Raphinha, Yamal and Lewandowski enjoying a stellar season.
The Catalans have made an announcement regarding the availability of Ferran Torres for the remainder of the season. Torres suffered from abdominal pain and had to undergo emergency appendicitis surgery to get relief.
"Appendicitis over!!! Time to support the team tonight from here to win La Liga!" Torres wrote on Instagram.
Hansi Flick's side can confirm their domestic treble if they manage to beat Espanyol in their upcoming La Liga fixture. With Ferran Torres out of the squad, the vacant position may either be filled by the second-highest goal-scorer of the season, Robert Lewandowski or forgotten teenage sensation Ansu Fati.
