'The dream runs ends!' Fans react as Atalanta BC thrash Bayer Leverkusen in UEFA Europa League final

The Italian club made history by winning their first ever European trophy. Leverkusen’s dream run for the season came to an end as they were defeated in their 52nd game of the season.

The UEFA Europa League 2023-24 after 210 games played for the second tier UEFA competition, on Wednesday the two remaining teams Atalanta BC and Bayer Leverkusen faced off against each other at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin. The Italian team has had a decent outing in the Serie A as they are 5th in the league table and have secured their place for the UEFA Champions League group stage next season.

On the other hand, the German side has been in their dream as they are 51 games unbeaten in the season, the most by any club in history. The game started with both sides trying to create chances. But the Italian side looked a little better as they opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the game Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The side kept on the pressure and they found the second with the Nigerian scoring the second for the game. Leverkusen had their chances in the first half but they failed to reduce the lead. The second half began in the other half with the German side creating the pressure but they could not break the Italian club’s defence.

Leverkusen's dream of treble ends 

Juan Musso was very busy in the second half as he had to make some good outings and do some decent saves as well. The Italian team soaked in the pressure and hit back in the 75th minute of the game making it 3-0 with Lookman scoring a hattrick in the Europa League final. The third goal from the former Everton man sealed the game for the side.
