It happened to be an ugly turnaround of events immediately after the end of Premier League’s Derby clash between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford. A fan reportedly slapped the Manchester City winger Jack Grealish when he was heading towards the players’ tunnel after the final whistle of the 0-0 draw between United and City.
A 20-year-old guy named Alfie Holt allegedly came up with an unexpected gesture for Grealish before slapping him.
“He will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court” – Greater Manchester Police
However, the youngster was formally charged by police, followed by strict action from the home club as they banned him from the Old Trafford for the future games. This ban also reflects the hard-core stance of Manchester United towards their nature of treating the unacceptable behaviour.
“Alfie Holt, 20, of Droylsden, has been charged with assault. He will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court in July. This charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford Football Club,” said a Greater Manchester Police representative in a formal statement.
Meanwhile, a few people who know the alleged attacker, Alfie Holt, have expressed their shock after hearing the news of his arrest and the charges under which police booked him.
A woman known to Holt expressed her shock and questioned the process in which police charged in this chase.
“I'm very surprised he's been charged by the police. It seems very out of character. He's a lovely lad, and I always have a chat with him when I see him in the road. He's got a steady girlfriend,d and he helps his dad a lot with jobs around the house. I can't imagine him doing something like that,” she said.
However, the Grealish incident wasn’t the only thing that happened during this match, Phil Foden was also on the receiving end of the abuses from a group of the United fans.
