Even though they had two kids together, Enzo Fernandez unexpectedly stopped their relationship, according to his ex-fiancee. Valentina Cervantes and Fernandez had been together since their teenage, while the midfielder was playing for River Plate in Argentina. She became pregnant at the age of 19, and they later traveled to Benfica and Chelsea together.
Following his World Cup victory with Argentina, Enzo Fernandez signed a contract with Chelsea till 2023, costing them 107 million euros. Together with their son Benjamin and daughter Olivia, the couple moved into a London home, where they lived for nearly two years before Fernandez broke the shocking news to his girlfriend in October.
Duirng an interview with Game Set & Match, Cervantes said: "Everything was fine and suddenly one day he told me that he didn't want to be [with me] anymore. There are things that I still have to process, but that's it, I accepted it."
She said that after he broke the news, she sobbed for five minutes. She also claimed that she turned down his offer to stay in the house with him and the kids, ultimately returning to Argentina. As she balanced working at a restaurant and pursuing a law degree, Cervantes also talked about how she used her whole paycheck to support Fernandez in the early years of his football career. She said: "At that time I earned more than his [club] gave him, we spent my entire salary, I had nothing left to save."
Enzo Fernandez is now vital member of Chelsea
Enzo Fernandez's breakup with Cervantes came as the Chelsea midfielder was playing some outstandingly. With three goals and four assists in his previous six games, he has established himself as a vital member of Enzo Maresca's midfield as he aids the Blues in their title fight.
He has scored three goals in 20 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, and he has recently established strong alliances with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
