Lille secured a historic victory over reigning champions Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, thanks to Jonathan David's penalty just before half-time. Despite a late onslaught of chances, the French club held on to end Real Madrid's impressive 14-match unbeaten streak in the competition, dating back to May 2023.

David's penalty came after an intense first half, following a VAR decision that ruled Eduardo Camavinga had illegally handled a free-kick. It was a well-deserved outcome for the home team after an exhilarating opening 45 minutes, during which they had several opportunities to take the lead, with David being denied by Andriy Lunin from close range. The second half continued to be action-packed, with chances for both teams and saw the introduction of star players Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric from the visitors' bench.

In a hard-fought match, Lille demonstrated their resolute defence, making two crucial goal-line clearances and benefiting from exceptional saves by goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier to secure a memorable 1-0 victory at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

This victory was well-earned, as Lille effectively executed their game plan against the reigning champions, maintaining control in midfield, committing players forward, and tactically limiting the attacking opportunities for Real Madrid.
