Erik Ten Hag set to agree new Manchester United deal with specific requirements

After a managerial assessment, Erik ten Hag, who has one year left on his current contract, has the support of the Manchester United administration to stay in his current position. Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are nearly to sign a new two-year deal for approximately £27 million.

Ten Hag has approved the new contract agreement in principle. Earlier this month, he received the go-ahead to remain as United's manager. Ten Hag, whose current £9 million-a-year contract had one year left, will remain at United until 2027 thanks to the new agreement. The new deal's parameters are reportedly being finalized by the club and Ten Hag's agents, and confirmation should come this week.

The new agreement calls for a reorganization of United's technical staff, with former attacker Ruud van Nistelrooy expected to rejoin the team as a member of Ten Hag's backroom group. Though it is believed that Van Nistelrooy declined to take on the coaching position at United, he was one of the contenders to replace Vincent Kompany at Burnley.

After leading United to an incredible 2-1 FA Cup final victory over neighbors Manchester City at Wembley, that also secured a Europa League spot, Ten Hag was put in limbo for a period of two weeks.

During an end-of-season evaluation, Sir Jim Ratcliffe along with his freshly formed football executive team spoke with prospective Ten Hag successors. Among them was Thomas Tuchel, the former manager of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Paris St. Germain, who eventually disqualified himself from the race to succeed Ten Hag.

Following nearly a month of consideration, United chose to remain with Ten Hag and informed the 54-year-old that his job was secure while he was on vacation in Ibiza. The assurance of a new contract accompanied that decision, and it is almost certain that one will be granted. United is scheduled to return for preseason practice on July 8.
