On Friday, the newest season of the English Premier League takes place. 20 teams will start the season to win the biggest prize in club football history. Manchester City are defending champions as they have perhaps one of the most complete squads.

The focus this year will be on Liverpool who have a new coach in Arne Slot who comes in to replace Jurgen Klopp. Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side will want to build on their amazing season last year and give Manchester City a run for their money once more.

It is a huge season also for Erik Ten Hag and his Manchester United side who have been flying in the transfer window. Ipswich Town marks their return to top-flight football after over two decades as one of the three promoted sides along with Southampton and Leicester City.

Here are the predictions and analysis for the English Premier League 2024/25 season

Champions – Manchester City

With the season yet to kick off, Pep Guardiola and his side have already won their first title of the season. The win over Manchester United in the FA Community Shield shows how hungry Pep Guardiola and his men are for title success. The departure of Julian Alvarez will not affect the citizens as they have a very strong squad to take home their 5th successive title.

Likely Challengers – (Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Aston Villa)

Arsenal could find themselves in the top three along with Liverpool and compete for the title. Mikel Arteta and the side have made a few smart buys during the summer transfer window. Arne Slot and his Liverpool side could pose a huge challenge to Man City as they have retained the core of the squad left by Jurgen Klopp. With three weeks left in the Transfer window, there could be a few more names coming into Anfield to make the team stronger.

Manchester United and Aston Villa could compete for a place in the top five and look for a place in the UEFA Champions League. Unai Emery and his side were one of the best teams last year and could yet again have a great season. Manchester United on the other hand have been one of the best teams during the summer window with INEOS pumping in the cash to buy some top-quality players.

The mid-table rush – (Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs, Newcastle United, Fulham and West Ham United)

It is set to be a mad scramble to get to the mid-table with London-based sides likely to dominate proceedings. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs could be one of the teams fighting for the UEFA Champions League or Europa League places. Newcastle United haven’t really been that active in the transfer market and this could see them finish outside of the top six in the table.

Fulham and West Ham United could be huge contenders for the UEFA Conference League as the two sides will look to finish in the top half. West Ham United in particular have made a few statement signings during the transfer window.

Lower Mid-Table (Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Leicester City)

Some of the teams that did well during the last season of the Premier League might find it tough to keep pace with the big teams. The likes of Brighton and Hove Albion in particular would be keen to be in the top 14 teams as far as the table standings go.

Former champions Leicester City has made it back to the English Premier League and the season could be a huge test for their manager and their players. The likes of Crystal Palace, Brentford, Wolves, and Bournemouth would have to play out of their skins to avoid the drop.

Relegation battlers – Everton, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, and Ipswich Town

The last few seasons have been tough for Everton who have escaped relegation. The amount of sanctions placed on them and their struggles during the transfer market could see the Toffees yet again in a relegation scrap. Nottingham Forest are one of the other sides that could struggle to keep their EPL status this season. Southampton and Ipswich town could be considered one of the early favourites for the drop early run of fixtures they are about to face.
