The Netherlands, managed by Ronald Koeman, played Turkiye in the quarterfinal round of the UEFA Euro 2024 on Saturday at the Olympiastadion Berlin. Samet Akaydin met a lovely ball from Arda Guler to head in the goal at the back post, giving Turkiye the lead during the 35th minute.

In the Dutch team's quarterfinal match against Romania, Donyell Malen, who netted two goals, was also given a yellow card. He has been punished for one game because he received his second yellow booking during the competition.

Guler nearly added a second goal early in the second half, but his attempt to hit the post with a free kick proved costly as Dutch centre-back Stefan de Vrij equalised in the 70th minute with a strong header.

Muldur turned the ball into the back of the net after some pressure from Cody Gakpo, giving the Netherlands the boost they needed. The Dutch held on despite many late possibilities for Turkey. After the Netherlands defeated Turkey 2-1 on Saturday, they advanced to the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals, where they will play England in Dortmund thanks to an own goal from Mert Muldur.

How does the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals shape up?

With just four teams left in the running to win the coveted trophy on June 14 at the Olympiastadion Berlin, UEFA Euro 2024 is nearing its conclusion. The last four teams competing for a position in the final are Spain, France, the runners-up from Euro 2016, England, and the winners of Euro 1988, Netherlands.

In a thrilling quarterfinal match of Euro 2024, Spain defeated host Germany 2-1 thanks to a goal from Mikel Merino in the last seconds of extra time. Meanwhile, France defeated Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo on penalties.

England survived a late comeback to defeat Switzerland 5-3 on penalties, keeping alive their hopes of winning a major tournament for the first time in 58 years. Samet Akaydin's first-half goal in the quarterfinal was wiped out by a header by Stefan de Vrij and an own goal by Mert Muldur in the final 20 minutes, as Netherlands defeated Turkiye 2-1.
