When Declan Rice realized the age that Lamine Yamal was, he started laughing. At England's last press conference prior to tonight's UEFA Euro 2024 final, Rice was addressing the media.

The England player was also questioned about Yamal, the breakout star from Spain who has participated in the majority of this competition as a 16-year-old.

The young player from Barcelona turned 17 yesterday. A few days prior, he had scored a spectacular goal against France in the semi-finals of the Euros, propelling Spain to the championship game. He said, "As soon as we won the game [against the Netherlands] I saw a stat that he was 12 when Covid hit. So, that was pretty scary that he was 12-years-old when Covid was around so it shows how good he is.”

Rice was alluding to the French team's efforts to scare Yamal ahead of their semifinal matchup. The former West Ham United midfielder said, "He's 16, look, I din't know why the French players would talk a player down like that because what he's done at Barcelona as a 16-year-old you have to just applaud it.”

He added, "Me as a football fan as well as a football player, you have to just respect it and sometimes you have to say at 16 'wow' it shows a lot of guts to play for Barcelona one but also do what he's doing at that age it's really really special."

FC Barcelona rejected more than 260 million bid for Lamine Yamal

A massive €250 million bid for Lamine Yamal was reportedly turned down by FC Barcelona priorto the 2024 European Championship. With his goal in Tuesday's semi-final victory over France, Yamal, who has been playing brilliantly for Spain in Germany, became the youngest player ever to score at a European Championship.

According to EFE, Barcelona turned down a huge offer for Yamal right away after receiving it prior to the competition. The team that made the bid isn't mentioned, but PSG is reportedly ready to pay the same sum to sign the teenager, according to prior rumors. Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, has previously stated that the team rejected a €200 million bid for Yamal, with the Spaniards presumably having a long-term contract with him.
