Following an investigation into his remarks concerning Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp, Premier League referee David Coote was formally sacked by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) on Monday, December 9. Coote was sacked after being found guilty of breaking his contract. A video purportedly showing the 42-year-old referee, apparently intoxicated, making derogatory comments against Liverpool and Klopp went viral on social media on November 11, sparking the dispute.
During the video, Coote recalled a game he oversaw between Aston Villa and Liverpool that finished in a 1-1 tie. Coote seems to talk about choices that hurt Liverpool in the match in the video. The Sun released a video allegedly showing Coote snorting a white drug while serving as an official at Euro 2024, which further fueled the scandal. Coote's activities came under increased scrutiny as UEFA swiftly suspended him and launched its own inquiry.
FA announced another claims which involves of booking player
On November 27, the FA announced that it was looking into claims that Coote and a friend had talked about booking a player the day before a match, a claim that the referee refuted. The PGMOL's ruling emphasizes that match officials would not be tolerated for misbehavior. Referees endure difficulties on and off the field, and the standards they are expected to maintain are highlighted by the case, which has garnered a lot of attention.
