Luis Castro praised Cristiano Ronaldo's exceptional talent and expressed a clear conscience despite not securing a major trophy at Al-Nassr.

Castro failed to deliver with a star-studded lineup

Even with a star-studded lineup that included Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte, Castro’s team finished the 2023-24 league season in second place, trailing 14 points behind their fierce rivals, Al-Hilal. This dominance from Jorge Jesus’ team extended beyond the league, as Al-Nassr also faced defeats in knockout competitions, including the Saudi Super Cup and the King Cup of Champions, against the same opponents.

Castro secured his only silverware with the Arab Club Champions Cup, leading Al-Nassr to a decisive 2–1 victory over Al-Hilal. However, following a disappointing start to the 2024 season, where the team managed just two draws in their first three league matches, Al-Nassr made the bold decision to replace him with Stefano Pioli.

Castro's Take on Ronaldo

Castro confidently expressed his belief that Ronaldo is on the path to achieving his next significant milestone: scoring 1,000 career goals. While he acknowledged that certain factors outside of Ronaldo’s control may influence this goal, the coach is unwaveringly optimistic about his potential.

"Cristiano was, is, and will be determined to be the best. You see this every day, in every training session. He has a permanent desire to play, break records, and score the most beautiful goals. When you are close, you understand why It's a phenomenon." - Castro added

"It won't depend on him, but on the context, We tried to 'get the best' out of Cris and we managed to get him to finish 2023 as the year's top scorer. I hope he has a favorable environment and surpasses that mark." he added

Ronaldo is set to make his comeback after the international break, with a crucial match against Al-Shabab lined up for Friday in the Saudi Pro League.
