Mykhailo Mudryk has been officially announced in the squad for the UEFA Europa League playoff matches. The Ukrainian remained included in the team’s roster despite facing doping allegations. Before these allegations, Mudryk played a full 360 minutes across four matches in the Conference League.
Chelsea has made some important additions to their squad, with Cole Palmer, Trevor Noah, and Matheus Amapu being included. The club has benefitted from the departure of five players from the Conference League roster, allowing for a smooth registration process.
This season, Mykhailo Mudryk has amassed 3 goals and provided 5 assists in his first 15 matches at the club level.
The Blues showed their dominance in the group stage, securing victory in all six matches and finishing at the top of the table. Consequently, Chelsea has easily bypassed the first knockout round and will enter the competition directly at the Round of 16 stage.
Mykhalio Mudryk allegedly doped in 2024
Mykhailo Mudryk had been provisionally suspended from playing for Chelsea following a positive drug test in 2024.
The Ukraine international had not taken the field for the Blues since November 28, when he scored during a UEFA Europa League match against Heidenheim. While his recent absence was initially claimed to be due to illness, it was later confirmed that he failed a doping test, rendering him unavailable to head coach Enzo Maresca.
According to FA regulations, when a player tests positive for prohibited substances, they face a provisional suspension.
Mykhailo Mudryk, who transferred to Chelsea for a considerable fee of £89 million in January 2023, signed a long-term contract lasting eight years. Since joining the club, he has made 73 appearances and scored 10 goals.
