Leyton Orient welcomed Premier League champions Manchester City to Brisbane Road for an important FA Cup fourth-round match on Saturday. The hosts aimed to bounce back after experiencing a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Stockport County, which ended their recent winning streak of two games. Meanwhile, the visitors were looking to recover from a tough 5-1 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League as they sought to regain momentum following two consecutive victories.

The O's were competing in the FA Cup fourth round for the first time since the 2010-11 season, presenting a valuable opportunity to showcase their skills and make a positive impression. Meanwhile, City approached the match having experienced some turbulent form, with two of their eight games in 2025 resulting in losses.

Leyton tooka stunning lead against Manchester City

The match commenced spectacularly, as the hosts, Leyton Orient, took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, capitalising on a mistake by Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Jamie Donley anticipated a loose ball just inside the Manchester City half, noticed Ortega off his line, and executed a first-time chip toward the goal. The ball struck the underside of the crossbar, ricocheted off the retreating Ortega, and found the back of the net. While it may officially be recorded as an own goal, it was an extraordinary display of skill from an audacious Donely.

Manchester City believed a foul on Gonzalez occurred just before Donley’s shot, but unfortunately, there was no VAR available in this round of the cup to review the incident.

Even with Manchester City commanding 75% of possession and launching 23 shots—9 of which were on target—they were unable to break through the host's defences in the first half.

Manchester City eventually equalised in the second half. In the 56th minute, they executed a quick corner on the left, passing the ball infield to Lewis. His shot appeared to be heading directly at Keeley until it struck the unaware Khusanov, taking a deflection into the goal.
