In Real Madrid's 2-0 UEFA Champions League loss at Anfield on Wednesday, forward Kylian Mbappe put on another quiet and unimpressive showing, missing a penalty and failing to pose a major threat to Liverpool's defense. After joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in June, the Frenchman has had a difficult start to his career, scoring only one goal in five Champions League appearances for the Spanish team.

Carlo Ancelotti said, “It’s a difficult moment for him, we’ve got to support him and give him our love, he’ll soon be fine. It could be a lack of confidence maybe. Sometimes you have moments when things aren’t quite working out for you. But you get through these moments. People miss penalties, it happens a lot. You can’t put too much grief on him for that.”

After Wednesday's game, manager Carlo Ancelotti backed the World Cup-winning forward, who has only scored once in his past six games across all competitions, saying he is a "extraordinary" player who only needs patience and encouragement to succeed in Spain.

The former Chelsea head coach said, “He works hard, he’s got to keep working hard and fighting. You get through these moments. Things just aren’t running for him at the moment. We’ve got be patient. He’s an extraordinary player.”

“They were more up for it than us” : Jude Bellingham

Ancelotti was certain that Real's record will improve enough, despite the fact that they are now 24th among the 36-team league and risk losing out on the next round. Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid, agreed with his manager that Liverpool dominated them.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder said, “They were more up for it than us which is very disappointing. It is a bad result against the best-performing team in Europe. We are disappointed at how we have performed and it is important that we win the next three games and give ourselves a chance to go through.”
