Cameroonian footballer Boupendza dies in mysterious circumstances in China: Reports

Chinese football club Zhejiang FC's footballer from Cameroon, Boupendza, died in mysterious circumstances as he fell from the roof of his apartment.

Premier League club Chelsea's former striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang paid tribute to one of his former teammates, Aaron Boupendza, as he expired at the age of 28. The young footballer met his demise after reportedly falling from the roof of his apartment.

The footballer had enjoyed a brief stint in European football before transitioning to the Asian football club. The nature of his demise shook the global footballing community.

African footballer found dead in China 

Boupendza had been playing for Zhejiang FC in the Far East after joining the club in January. The striker had previously played for several clubs, including Bordeaux in France and Hatayspor in Turkey. It has been reported that the Gabon international had an argument with his brother before his death.

The striker scored four goals and provided six assists in just six matches for his latest team, Zhejiang.

According to Fanatik, an investigation has been initiated following the tragic news of Boupendza’s passing. He reportedly missed his club's most recent training session without any explanation.

"I don't have the words. Rest in peace, my brother." Aubameyang said.

Boupendza's former clubs react to the loss

"We have learnt with deep sorrow of the passing of Aaron Boupendza, who wore our Hatayspor jersey in the 2020/21 season and became the top scorer. We extend our condolences and patience to his family and loved ones, to the Zhejiang FC team, and to our community. Rest in peace, king." Hatyaspor announced

"The Gabonese international died following a fall from the 11th floor of his building in China, where he was playing for Zhejiang FC. Aged 28, Boupendza leaves us with the memory of a great striker who left his mark on the CAN (Africa Cup of Nations) in Cameroon," read the Gabonese Football Federation statement.
