Bayern Munich fan passes away, minutes before Club claimed victory in Champions League

Bayern Munich has confirmed the passing of a fan following a medical emergency during their Champions League victory over Benfica on Wednesday night. The supporter, unfortunately, passed away while being transported to the hospital after needing assistance just three minutes into the match at the Allianz Arena.

In a show of solidarity and respect, fans in the Sudkurve, known for their passionate support, chose to remain silent for much of the game in honour of their fellow supporter.

During the match, a supporter required medical assistance and was taken away on a stretcher approximately half an hour in, attended to by paramedics and police.

The Players didn't know about the incident 

Despite Benfica's stiff defending, Harry Kane played a pivotal role in the game by setting up Jamal Musiala to score the only goal in the 67th minute. While the goal brought some celebration, the overall atmosphere remained subdued. 

Midfielder Konrad Laimer mentioned that the players didn't know about the incident.

"We didn’t know of it during the game, just after it,' said midfielder Konrad Laimer.

"We wish the family strength and best wishes, we’re thinking of all involved, and we’re hoping for the best for the individual fan." he added.

In a show of respect, the Sudkurve chose to temper their usual enthusiastic support for the team, and the club decided to limit its match coverage. 

Tragically, about an hour after the final whistle, FC Bayern received the heartbreaking news that the fan had passed away while being transported to the hospital. The club came together in solidarity with the fan's family and friends during this difficult time.

Bayern Munich's statement read: 'In the Champions League league phase match against Benfica, FC Bayern’s 1-0 victory was overshadowed by a sad event. A medical emergency in the stands of the Allianz Arena cast a shadow over the game right from the start."
