The late performances of Bayer Leverkusen seem to be a regular thing nowadays. The Bundesliga league leaders maintained composure, made use of their bench, and were rewarded for believing in themselves by netting twice in the final moments on a night of tense moments and sporadic outbursts at the BayArena. West Ham's oppressive tactics tested the Bundesliga side’s patience.

Xabi Alonso is considered football management's emerging star as he is all set to win the first championship in the club's history on Sunday. Even though Leverkusen had the upper hand on shots and possession, Alonso's team had to persevere to seize control in the UEFA Europa League quarter final first-leg.

With seven minutes remaining, West Ham had given it their all with David Moyes lifting them from the sidelines. Leverkusen, however, who credit much of their 42-game unbeaten streak to their ability to win late, wouldn't have been defeated. After entering the game, Jonas Hofmann scored the game-winning goal, and Victor Boniface added another one to Alonso's outstanding substitutions. He made the result appear more reasonable by winning the last minute of play.

How did David Moyes react to the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League?

When Boniface scored, West Ham had become worn out and dejected from all their efforts, so it seemed like a crucial goal. With a 2-0 deficit against one of the top teams in Europe, it appears unlikely that things will change. In addition to their problems with selection, West Ham found it difficult to contain Leverkusen. Now, they will need to find a method to attack without Lucas Paquetá, who was booked for a petty foul on Amine Adli and will be absent for the second leg.

The West Ham Manager spoke after the game against Bayer Leverkusen and discussed why Lucas Paqueta was booked. David Moyes said, “We’re playing a Champions League team tonight – and a good one at that.I thought it was disgraceful,” Moyes continued. “I’m really disappointed with their bench. They should let the referee make the decision."
