FC Barcelona's President Joan Laporta revealed a piece of welcoming news about a new sponsorship agreement with Nike, following a board meeting. This partnership is expected to be financially beneficial for the club. Radio station RAC1 also confirmed that the agreement has been made with the American sportswear giant.
RAC1 has confirmed that the board of directors has decisively approved the new agreement, which is essentially a contract extension awaiting Nike's final approval and signature.
Highest Valued Sponsorship deal on the cards
The agreement will provide an increase of approximately $51.4 million (€48 million) annually, between 2024-28. Beyond 2028, the annual increase will range from $62 million (€58 million) to $64 million (€60 million).
Culemania director Victor Malo recently confirmed a report by RAC1 on X, announcing a groundbreaking sponsorship deal in soccer. This agreement is set to be the largest of its kind, valued at $1.82 billion over 14 years, averaging approximately $129.5 million annually.
Malo, referencing anonymous sources, indicated that while the deal was initially expected to be finalized within a week, developments on Thursday night led to the convening of an emergency board meeting, called by Laporta.
Nike rescues Barcelona's financial woes
The deal arrives at a critical moment for Barcelona, which must re-register summer signings Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, alongside Andreas Christensen.
Olmo and Pau Victor will only be registered and cleared to play this season because Barcelona strategically exploited a loophole, especially considering Christensen's long-term injury.
Olmo and Pau Victor have successfully registered and are set to contribute this season, with FC Barcelona navigating a loophole in light of Christensen's long-term injury.
To address the club’s ongoing Financial Fair Play considerations, securing a new financial boost has been essential for all three players to participate under Hansi Flick in the latter part of the 2024/2025 season.
Fortunately, it seems that Nike is stepping in to provide support, and we can anticipate an official announcement regarding the new sponsorship deal in the coming days.
