Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has assured fans about the recovery of promising young defender Pau Cubarsi, who faced a facial injury during their UEFA Champions League victory on Wednesday night.

Cubarsi exited the match in the second half following a challenging incident where he inadvertently collided with Crvena Zvezda's Uros Spajic while trying to connect with a cross. Now, the team's focus remains on ensuring that Cubarsi makes a full recovery.

The 17-year-old received prompt medical attention before being substituted in the 67th minute for Sergi Dominguez. Blaugrana secured a confident 5-2 victory in Serbia, demonstrating their ongoing improvement under Flick’s leadership.

Following the match, the German coach provided an update, assuring fans that the defender is recovering well. Additionally, an image shared on social media highlighted his progress after receiving 10 stitches. The 59-year-old shared that he required stitches but reassured everyone that he was doing well. 

In the Champions League group phase, Barcelona has made significant progress, now sitting in sixth place despite a challenging matchday one defeat against Monaco, which occurred while they were down to ten players. 

On the bright side, in La Liga, Barcelona is enjoying a strong position with an eight-point lead over their rivals Real Madrid. On Wednesday night, the team showcased an impressive performance, with goals from Inigo Martinez, Raphinha, Fermín Lopez, and a brace from Robert Lewandowski securing the victory. 

Flick's take on the team's performance 

In his post-match comments, Flick highlighted the team's effective ball control and solid defensive play. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Red Star. Flick expressed his satisfaction with the team's overall effort, emphasizing the importance of securing a win, especially in away matches in Europe.

"What mattered was winning, and especially here because it's not easy to win away in Europe. So I'm very happy ... I hope we can keep this rhythm up for the whole season and stay confident. It won't be easy, but we are working hard and after the international break I hope things stay like that. The team is doing very well, they're fabulous, and we need to keep competing like that," Flick said.
