With only one day left until the deadline, Barcelona has missed yet another attempt to sign Spanish attacker Dani Olmo for the rest of the season. In August, the club paid over 55 million euros to sign Olmo. But the offensive midfielder was only registered for the first half of the season because they couldn't pay the wage ceiling set by La Liga.

By reallocating the salary of long-term injured players, Barcelona was able to originally sign Dani Olmo and fit the 26-year-old and striker Pau Victor into their budget. The four-month limit for this agreement, however, is scheduled to elapse at the end of this month.  La Liga claims that because Olmo's precautionary registration did not meet all the requirements for such a step, it was denied.

Furthermore, La Liga stressed that no team, not even Barcelona, has ever challenged the Delegate Commission's complete authority to adopt spending guidelines. Before departing for Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16, Olmo was a member of Barcelona's youth program. This season, he has made 15 appearances for the team and scored six goals. He played a key role in Spain's summertime victory in the European Championship.

First, even if the Euro 2024 champion is no longer with Barca, the club still has to pay the remaining 48 million euros for the remainder of his contract, which runs until 2030. In addition to the 55 million euro that must still be paid to his former team, RB Leipzig, the Catalans would also have to forgo the possible, nonexistent transfer fee.

Top Premier League clubs showing interest

To avoid Olmo becoming a free agent, Barcelona must now find another way to register him before January 1. Premier League clubs are reportedly already showing interest. According to reports, teams like Manchester United and City were keeping a careful eye on Olmo's circumstances.

Top teams from all around Europe expressed interest in signing him because of a clause in his contract that said he may end his contract with Barcelona if he wasn't registered by January 1. Before Olmo moved to Barcelona, City had been keeping tabs on him because they thought he would be a great addition to Pep Guardiola's system.
