After the current campaign, Arne Slot has expressed his desire to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager of Liverpool. On Wednesday, Liverpool and Feyenoord began discussing Slot's possible appointment.

The Dutchman told ESPN that he was interested in the position prior to Feyenoord's 3-1 league win over Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday. He went on to say that he felt "confident" Feyenoord and Liverpool will come to an understanding. He said,"It seems clear to me that I would like to work there. All I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations. I’m in the waiting room."

The Feyenoord manager added, “The clubs have to do their job and then I am waiting, and as the ‘main character’ I have to respect that. It will undoubtedly become clear in the coming days. It’s no secret that I want to go to Liverpool.”

Slot, who was formerly connected to Tottenham Hotspur, guided Feyenoord to the Dutch Cup this season as well as the 2022–23 Eredivisie championship. Slot does not have an automatic release clause, therefore Liverpool will need to work out a price with Feyenoord if he is signed. His contract contains one, but it won't be activated until next year.

Will Arne Slot be a good fit for Liverpool?

The offensive mentality of Slot's teams, together with his disposition and aptitude for player development, are thought to be the main reasons Liverpool has chosen him as their candidate. In 2021, he assumed the role of manager at Feyenoord, and in 2023, he indicated his desire to take charge in the Premier League after being connected to Spurs.

Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon were both believed to be interested in the Anfield position, but Alonso decided in March to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. Although Klopp has led the Liverpool squad since October 2015, he made his departure from the team known in January. Since then, the Liverpool ownership has been on the look-out for potential successors to the German manager.
