Stefano Pioli's successor has yet to be named, and with his farewell game planned for this weekend, an announcement must be made quickly. However, AC Milan appears to be making progress with one among their favoured prospects.

This weekend's showdown with Salernitana marks the conclusion of an era. An age marked by both highs and lows. Pioli oversaw an era that lasted five years. The Italian merits his roses for his accomplishments, and he leaves the team in a better state than before he took over. A scudetto and revival on the European scene lay the groundwork for the next coach to build upon.

However, the builder has yet to be determined, and the issue is reaching a critical point. Pioli's exit is imminent, and there is no clear front-runner as the scenario continues to evolve. Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan) stated this morning that Paulo Fonseca's contacts had increased, and 'his phone has not stopped ringing'. Given his Serie A expertise, the Portuguese manager could be the ideal option to lead the Rossoneri to more success.

According to the article, interaction between the team and Fonseca has never ended, implying that their admiration for him may be far more than previously thought.

Veteran defender Simon Kjaer set to depart the club this season

Simon Kjaer, Milan's defender, confirmed on Tuesday that he will quit the Serie A team at the conclusion of this season. The 35-year-old Danish skipper joined the San Siro on loan from Sevilla in January 2020, before securing a permanent contract at the end of the season.

Kjaer played 120 games for the club and claimed the Italian Serie A championship in 2022, however has been plagued with injuries this year, making only 24 appearances across all competitions. In a video posted to Milan's account on the social media site X, Kjaer said, "This is my club. It's my place. It always will be. My time here was the pride and dream that gave me great joy and a lot of satisfaction in my career and life.”
