Marvel Rivals have quickly climbed up the popularity ladder, and is now hosting its first esports tournament featuring popular invited teams. This comes on the same day as devs announced the game has surpassed over 20 million players. Reaching a new milestone and hosting the first esports event within two weeks of launch is an impressive achievement.
Named Marvel Rivals Invitational (MRI) North America, the event is set to feature four professional esports orgs. These include NRG, Luminosity Gaming, NTMR and U 4 R I A, who will be competing for a prize pool of $20,000.

The mention of North America means that a similar event across other regions is also a possibility. The matches will be live-streamed across the official Twitch channel and will take place starting December 20 to December 22 and while small scale, the company seems to be planning more in coming days.

Marvel Rivals to host regular in-game tournaments
Players can also find an in-game tournament section completely different from the MRI and is called Marvel Rivals Championship (MRC). This also features a prize pool of $14,500 and have three regional divisions, North America, Europe and Asia with matches currently ongoing.

What’s even more impressive is that there is a PC and console division, meaning console players are also getting a chance to compete properly. Further details reveal that the MRC will be a regular esports event, taking place quarterly along with each season.
Since the tournament is open to all, it is a great opportunity for players to try playing competitively. Do note that there are also rules for tournament which must be followed. Furthermore, each tournament season may have different rules from prior. Another thing to note that this isn’t an international event like a large scale esports event and merely an in-game event at the moment.
