The PUBG Mobile World Esports Championship, hosted by the International Esports Federation (IESF) kicked off on November 11 featuring 16 teams. These teams rise from four different regions through national and regional qualifiers and are currently competing for the 2024 championship and a prize pool of $130,000.

Team Brazil saw an incredible opening match, securing back-to-back chicken dinners. The team also managed to find a decent number of finishers but could not keep the performance consistent which prevented them from taking the top spot.

Talking about consistency, Team Ukraine presented a great example by securing multiple top-three finishes along with double-digit finishers. The team also managed to bag a chicken dinner after witnessing others steal their glory three times back-to-back.

Another team that was consistently in the top five but remained a bit short on finishers, similar to Brazil, was Team Turkey. Both Brazil and Turkey hold similar points, but Brazil holds the advantage due to a number of wins as Turkey are yet to see a chicken dinner.

Another missed opportunity for India's esports sector

Despite having one of the largest esports communities, India isn’t a part of the tournament, which is not something new as PUBG Mobile is banned in the country. However, that still does not explain why there isn’t an international slot, as BGMI is the exact same game as PUBG Mobile.

IESF and Global Esports Federation recently made progress towards India after partnering with Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF) and the country will reportedly host its first international esports tournament. Hopefully, Indian teams will also get more opportunities overseas.
