Assassin's Creed: Shadows took a long time to produce and was often postponed before being released this year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S by Ubisoft. Fans' and critics' disapproval of the gameplay trailers and displays during Assassin's Creed Shadow's development led to this decision.

Another factor was how poorly earlier Ubisoft games, such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars: Outlaws, were treated in recent years. Nevertheless, it appears that Ubisoft has chosen to devote more time to refining its next games after seeing the benefits of Assassin's Creed Shadows' extended production period. During today's financial results release, this was revealed. It's unclear at this moment which Ubisoft games will require more time to produce.

It was simply implied that the aforementioned games are part of the major Ubisoft franchises, which include Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, and The Division. According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the postponed initiatives are now scheduled to begin after the current fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2026. Accordingly, the upcoming games in Ubisoft's most popular franchises will either be released by the end of March 2027 or March 2028, which are the next two fiscal years.

Yves Guillemot says the company took decisive steps for future

According to Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft has a new approach. "After a review of our pipeline, we have decided to provide additional development time to some of our biggest productions to create the best conditions for success. As a consequence, FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant content coming from our largest brands," he says. After its March 2025 debut, Assassin's Creed Shadows reached 3 million players a week later and recorded the second-highest day-one sales in the franchise's history.

Hopefully, this will result in Ubisoft releasing better and more polished games in the future. Yves Guillemot went on to say, "Aware of the challenges ahead, we took decisive steps to continue strengthening the company's future. The launch of Assassin's Creed: Shadows was a defining moment. It reaffirmed the power of the Assassin's Creed brand, with a highly favourable community response from long-time fans and new players alike. We also completed our initial cost savings programme ahead of schedule. We are committed to going further, with additional savings of at least $100m over the next two years to drive structural efficiencies and reinforce the foundations of our organisation," he added.
