Ubisoft is reportedly looking for investors to form a new entity holding some of its most popular video game IPs, including Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. The company has been in a bit of financial woes for the last couple of years and is considering selling a minority stake. Things are still being considered as plans can change moving forward.

The information comes from a Bloomberg report with information from insiders. Ubisoft has already contacted potential bidders, which also includes Tencent, a company whose name has regularly come up over the past year as a potential acquirer in case Ubisoft plans to go private amidst dropping revenue.

Ubisoft asks for preliminary bids this month

The plans to form a new entity were also brought up previously this year in January as per the report where Ubisoft planned to do something similar. As of now, the company has asked for preliminary bids to be made as soon as this month, which is interesting considering Assassin’s Creed Shadows is also launching in just a few days.

Most recently, the company got flamed from a minority shareholder regarding non-disclosure of potentially selling its IPs. CEO of AJ Investments, ‘Juraj Krúpa’, accused Ubisoft of keeping them in the dark and asked fellow stockholders to come in support of a protest planned for this year in May. It’s hard to tell if that was on the same matter or something entirely different, but it sounds a lot similar.

All eyes on Assassin’s Creed Shadows launch

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on March 20th, and Ubisoft finally seems to have put in a lot of effort to win back gamers. A primary focus was on Steam, where the majority of PC players reside, as the company recently announced Steam Deck verification, achievements, and trading cards. If this does not ease the financial pressure on Ubisoft, it’s hard to see what will.
