Ubisoft has taken a completely new approach with the announcement of a subsidiary that will home three of its biggest video game IPs. Backing them is Tencent with a minority stake investment of $1 billion. However, amidst all these changes, the current employees are concerned regarding another wave of layoffs with the situation Ubisoft was in.

Over the last few months, there have been layoffs across multiple companies and Ubisoft is also no stranger. As per reports, the company has almost 20,000 employees so naturally, moving important games to a different subsidy has people think twice about what may happen with people who aren’t working on those games.

As revealed by Insider Gaming who were approached by multiple concerned employees, Ubisoft did talk about trust and transparency as things change rapidly, but people aren’t 100% convinced this will be the case. “They can say these things in an email, but when it comes down to it, we feel like we know where priorities are,” one of the employees said.

Ubisoft reassures employees

Soon after the announcement of a new subsidiary was made, Employees also received an internal memo and a follow-up mail on the topic. Along with the news, employees were also reassured that even if they are not working on popular IPs like Rainbow Six, Assassin's Creed, and Far Cry, their work matters, and any decision being made moving forward will be transparent.

“I also want to be clear: if you’re not currently working on these brands, it doesn’t mean your work matters any less. This agreement will benefit all of Ubisoft, giving us the means to spark more innovation and creativity across the board. This marks the beginning of a new chapter, and you play a vital role in shaping it,” said Marie-Sophie de Waubert.

Ubisoft has faced a lot of criticism over the years, both for games and recent layoffs. Assassin’s Creed Shadows did manage to improve upon their previous games but it’s a long road if the company plans to see people taking their side.
