Twitch ad revenue Photograph: (Instagram)
Popular streaming platform Twitch faces a new issue with top streamers complaining about the decrease in ad revenue in recent times. It is a popular streaming platform where people live-stream many events, like gaming sessions and other activities. But, top streamers like Knut and Mizkif are claiming that their ad revenue has dropped drastically, and it is not good for the future of the platform. It is now the number one live streaming platform, and many competitors are chasing it.
If top streamers choose to switch to alternate platforms, then it will be big trouble for the streaming platform to bring in audience and views. Streamers are making money via Twitch in many ways. One way is income that comes through ads, and the other ways are subscriptions and donations.

Even viewers who didn't subscribe will see ads, and that is the area where these streamers are raising complaints. Popular streamer Knut said his ad revenue was at an all-time low by showing a graphic interface. He also said that during these difficult days, streaming on Kick was very helpful for him during his downslide on Twitch.

The revenue earned through online and streaming has fluctuations, and it all depends on the economic and social circumstances. Twitch were also accused of Antisemitism (discrimination against Jews), and many advertisers left the platform. After that, Twitch made some changes to its ad and revenue structure, and one of them was experimenting with Picture in Picture ads that let users stream with the ads being shown in a smaller screen with audio muted.
They are following a revenue model of 95/5, in which 95% goes to the streamer while 5% goes to the streaming platform. The Platform adjusts the earnings if the streamer broadcasts videos on other platforms. This was the reason for the decrease in ad revenue for Knut and Mizkif. If the same continues, they may even exit the platform and look for alternatives like Kick and YouTube.
