The gaming and esports sector in India is advancing rapidly, and Tata has taken a note. As per managing director and chief executive of Tata Communications, Amur Lakshminarayanan, the company is also getting more and more invested in the sector.
This move towards gaming and esports comes as part of further expansion across three different sectors. These three sectors Tata is looking to further expand into includes international sporting federations, broadcast sector and esports.
“We see three significant growth opportunities in the M&E space: enhancing partnerships with international sporting federations through added value and advanced production capabilities, supporting broadcasters in their transition to modern technologies and addressing the rapidly expanding e-gaming and esports markets,” Lakshminarayanan said.

How is Tata aiming to help esports grow further?
With gaming now more popular than ever, people are looking to make a name for themselves. It also acts as a means of entertainment for many, similar to traditional sports. Tata is aiming to help make broadcasts easy and reach more people.
The company’s acquisition of live production and video transmission company, The Switch, will allow esports events accessible across India. Furthermore, they are also aiming to make remote content production and cloud-based live events much easier.
A recent report by Observer Research Foundation (ORF) suggest that the gaming sector will play a huge part in boosting the Indian economy. It is believed that out of the $1 trillion economy goal, online gaming will likely be contributing 18-23 per cent to the national GDP.
It’s no surprise that companies, and even the government, is advancing their hands towards the gaming escort with various policies for regulation in order to make India a gaming hub while also having a safe and fun environment.
