The parent company of Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, has given fans assurances regarding the game's release schedule and said that GTA 6 was postponed in order to realize the developer's creative vision "without limitations."  GTA 6 has been one of the most eagerly awaited video games in recent years as it is the long-awaited follow-up to 2013's GTA 5 and the next installment in Rockstar's immensely popular open-world criminal tale.

Since its initial formal confirmation in 2022, the next Grand Theft Auto has been a steady presence on the radar of fans, generating a great deal of excitement and conjecture. The record-breaking release of the announcement trailer and a variety fan hypotheses that followed might be used to gauge the magnitude of the excitement and attention around the project.  Rockstar Games originally planned for GTA 6 to be released in 2025, but in order to ensure the game's quality, they postponed it until May 26, 2026.

The proprietor of the American publisher has now discussed the choice to move the game farther back and disclosed the factors that led to it. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, explained in an interview with IGN that coming closer to finishing "a title that’s seeking perfection" might highlight the need for "continued polish." In light of GTA 6's situation, which had direct effects on the market, he clarified that the decision to postpone the game was taken because the decision-makers believed that "a small amount of incremental time" would enable Rockstar Games to fully realize its vision for the game without any restrictions.

While acknowledging that these delays "pain" him as well, he said that supporting the developers "in their search for perfection" was "the most important thing."

In addition to disclosing the reasoning behind the postponement, Zelnick gave a comforting speech on the recently disclosed release date for Grand Theft Auto 6.  Regarding Rockstar's history, the Take-Two CEO highlighted that the developers have "been very good about reaching it" in terms of meeting delivery schedules.  Notably, Red Dead Redemption 2, the publisher's most recent big release, also experienced delays before finally launching on a set date.
