Sonic the Hedgehog has been attracting a lot of attention recently following the success of the recently released movie. Thanks to that, the popularity of Sonic Adventure 2 has also seen a bump in the player count, despite the game releasing back in 2001. The game recently reached over 1,000 concurrent players on Steam.

The biggest factor for its success is likely Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie that released just a few days ago and was quite successful. However, it was a combination of different few other things that came together to attract the attention towards the game.

Most recently, a Crush 40 band member who was one of the original creator for the theme song of Sonic Adventure 2 sued Sega. This attracted a lot of attention on the matter as the individual claimed Sega used the song across various different games despite not having proper rights and is looking for compensation.

The song in talk is ‘Live and Learn’ which is quite popular and likely prompted people to check out the classic game. Thankfully, the ongoing Steam winter sale likely gave people a reason to get the game and while not the best in the Sonic franchise, the game received very well reviews.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 confirmed

The signs for success for Sonic movie were already there, and Paramount Pictures is prepping for a 4th instalment in the series as reported by Variety with expected release in 2027. This came on December 19, a day before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 released.

The details regarding the next instalment are scarce, but Jeff Fowler is expected to return as the director of the next instalment of Sonic, considering how much success all three movies has seen. The first two movies combined earned over $725 million in global box office, while the latest movies reached over $60 million.
